Am I standing in front of the camera or not? The face illusion is induced by cutting out a frontal photo along the lines of a profile picture and revealing some persuasive side-elements from the second picture.
In order to design a display that looks like the QlockTwo but tells stories about energy instead of time, I had to figure out a way to do this transformation efficiently. I first came up with three types of sentences in which names, times and quantities can change according to the energy measurements. I then assigned colours to corresponding phrases and ordered them. Sometimes a ’s pace’ was necessary to split the words but not always. This was filled into a matrix from left to right, top to bottom. Empty spaces were hereafter filled with random letters. In total, more than 150 combinations are possible!
For an upcoming building project in Aalst (Belgium), I was asked to make a render and present the project at the City Hall in order to get a building permit. The architect made his plans on tracing paper so I had to virtually build everything from the ground up. The following software combination was used: SketchUp, Kerkythea and Photoshop.
